Wired to grow: how neuroscience changes the way we learn and lead with Dr. Britt Andreatta
Ever attended a training and thought: This is so boring?
The issue isn’t the content - it’s the design. Our brains crave engagement, challenge, and meaning. So how can you cater to that? Neuroscience holds the answers.
Dr. Britt Andreata, a pioneer in neuroleadership, shares how trainers, coaches, and leaders can create learning experiences that stick - and transform.
1. The brain gets bored quickly
Did you know your brain processes information at lightning speed? When a session moves too slowly or doesn’t engage, the brain tunes out. It multitasks, jumping between paying attention and checking emails. The result? Learning doesn’t stick.
The solution: work in 15–20 minute learning chunks followed by active processing. Have participants immediately apply their learning with practical exercises or discussions.
2. Meaning matters more than happiness
Happiness and purpose are both crucial - but vastly different. Britt explains:
• Happiness gives short-term gratification. Think fun stories or exercises.
• Purpose offers long-term fulfillment when learners see real value in what they’re learning.
As a trainer, always connect the material to real-world goals. How does this help them grow? How does it improve their work or personal life?

3. Building vivid memories
Memories aren’t stored in one neat folder in your brain - they’re built through senses and experiences. Virtual reality, Britt explains, is so powerful because the brain treats it as a real memory. This unlocks incredible potential for training.
But you don’t need VR. Use sensory triggers - like scents, sounds, or tactile objects - to create stronger, lasting memories.
4. Learning from failure
The brain learns best from mistakes, but only when there’s psychological safety. Britt emphasizes that teams with a safe environment learn faster, perform better, and take more responsibility.
As a trainer or manager, reward progress first (dopamine boost!) before offering corrections. This keeps the learning experience positive and engaging.
Make Learning Unforgettable
Our brains are extraordinary tools, but they need thoughtful design to unleash their full potential. By understanding and leveraging neuroscience, you can elevate learning and leadership to the next level.
